Who are you travelling with?

The Tulip Garden is the one sight in Srinagar with a calendar. It opens when the tulips bloom, in the second half of March most years, and shuts about a month later when they fade. Miss the window and you are looking at lawns. This page has every opening and closing date since 2023, the ticket with the order that set it, the week to aim for, the way there from Dal Lake and the airport, and what to pair it with on the same road. For the rest of the city start with our Srinagar guide; the Mughal gardens are its neighbours along the lake.
When does the Tulip Garden open in 2027?
Not announced yet. When we checked on 29 October 2026 the Floriculture Department had not set a date, and it never does this early: the 2026 date was announced on 10 March, six days before the gate opened. The garden opens when the first beds bloom, so the date moves with the spring. Every season since 2023:
| Season | Opened | Closed | Visitors |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 19 March | 21 April | 3.65 lakh |
| 2024 | 23 March | 24 April | 4.45 lakh |
| 2025 | 26 March | 24 April | 8,55,125, the record |
| 2026 | 16 March | 16 April | 3.90 lakh |
The pattern: the gate opened between 16 and 26 March and closed between 16 and 24 April, for 30 to 33 days a season. The only dates it was open in all four years are 26 March to 16 April. If your leave is fixed, book inside that window. If it can move, wait for the announcement in the first ten days of March and book then: Delhi to Srinagar is a 90-minute flight and seats are the easy part, rooms are the hard part (see where to stay, below).
Why it moves: the bulbs go into the ground in the second week of November now, where a decade ago planting began around 20 October, the garden's assistant floriculture officer Imran Ahmad told Daily Excelsior on 12 November 2025, and the department plants in phases so the beds open in turn over three to four weeks. A warm February brings the whole thing forward: in 2026 the gate opened about a week early for an early bloom, and by mid-April the rows were already going over.
What to watch for 2027: the first signal comes in mid-February. In 2026 the department said on 16 February that the garden would open "around March 15" if the weather held (Kashmir Life); the firm date came on 10 March. We update this page the day the 2027 date is out.
Tulip Garden ticket price: ₹100 an adult, ₹50 a child
The 2026 rate was ₹100 for an adult and ₹50 for a child under 12, set by a Directorate of Floriculture, Gardens and Parks order in force from 1 March 2026 (reported by Ziraat Times on 28 June 2026). That doubled the ₹75 and ₹30 that stood in 2024 and 2025. The 2027 ticket is not announced; when the rate changes it changes on 1 March, before the garden opens, so check this table in March.

How to book Tulip Garden tickets online
- Open the Floriculture Department's ticket portal, eticket.webfront.in/jkfc, linked from floriculture.jk.gov.in. Online ticketing for all the department's gardens was launched with J&K Bank on 14 March 2026 (All India Radio, 15 March 2026).
- Pick the Tulip Garden, the visit date and the category (adult, child, Indian or foreigner), then the number of tickets.
- Pay. The portal adds a ₹2 platform fee a ticket on top of the entry rate.
- Keep the e-ticket on your phone for the gate.
At the gate: the counters sell tickets on the day, and that is how most people buy. In 2025 the department also put QR-code booking points at the Tourist Reception Centre and the airport (The Kashmir Images, 25 March 2025); the director said then that the whole process would move online "in the coming two-three years".
What are the Tulip Garden timings?
9 am to 7 pm, every day of the season. Every report since 2023 prints those hours and Google's listing shows the same; the department's own site lists none, so treat 7 pm as the latest you should count on and arrive by 9. There is no weekly closed day. The Mughal gardens next door shut at sunset, so do the tulips first and Nishat after.
Which week is best for the tulips?
The middle two weeks of the season. The beds are planted in phases, so the first week has the early varieties and some beds still shut, the middle has all 70 to 75 varieties open at once, and the last week is fading: when the 2026 gate closed on 16 April about 1.5 to 2 lakh flowers were still standing but withered, the officer in charge said.
| If you go in | What you see | Crowd |
|---|---|---|
| The opening week | Early varieties, hyacinths and daffodils; some beds still closed | Heavy on the first weekend: 1.56 lakh people in the opening week of 2025 |
| Weeks 2 and 3 | Every bed open; the colour the photos promise | The peak. Sundays are the worst days of the year |
| The last week | Late varieties and fading rows; the department closes when the bloom is "nearly over" | Thinner on weekdays |
Dates that worked: in the four seasons above, the middle fortnight fell between about 26 March and 12 April. Booking blind, aim for the first ten days of April. If February is warm and the papers say "early bloom", shift a week earlier.
Time of day: 9 am. The light is soft on the terraces, the coaches arrive from about 11, and by afternoon the paths between the beds are a slow queue. A weekday matters more than the hour: the garden's officials said weekend crowds run about double a normal day (News Arena, April 2026), and the two busiest days of the record 2025 season were both Sundays, 6 April with 81,352 visitors and 13 April with 70,430 (Kashmir Life, 25 April 2025). A normal day in 2026 was about 12,000.

How to reach the Tulip Garden from Dal Lake, Lal Chowk and the airport
The garden is on the Chashme Shahi road below the Zabarwan hills, between the Botanical Garden and Chashme Shahi, 6.9 km from Dal Gate. A taxi, an auto or a cab app from the Boulevard takes 15 to 20 minutes outside the weekend rush.

Cab apps work in Srinagar: Rapido is the most reliable and the fastest to book, and Aala and Novo also run. Ask for "Tulip Garden, Chashme Shahi Road". In season the Boulevard crawls from late morning on weekends, one more reason for 9 am. Flying in that morning? The airport road to the Boulevard is 45 minutes, and a foggy March day can hold the flight: check the Srinagar airport status before you leave.
Parking: there is a car park at the gate, and the district added four kanals of parking before the 2024 season (IANS, 19 March 2024). On an April Sunday it fills; a drop by auto or app avoids it.
How long do you need, and what should you carry?
Two hours. Google's own visitor data says people spend up to an hour and a half; give it two if you want every terrace, three with a camera. The garden climbs seven terraces on sloping ground, the district says, so expect ramps and steps between levels; older parents can stay on the lower terraces and still see most of the colour.
| Month | Average high / low | Rain | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| March | 16°C / 4°C | 105 mm, the wettest month | A rain layer, closed shoes, a sweater for the morning |
| April | 21°C / 8°C | 92 mm | Warm by noon; a hat and water |
What else is next to the Tulip Garden?
Everything on the eastern shore of Dal Lake. In order from the gate: the Botanical Garden (2 km), Chashme Shahi (1.8 km) with Pari Mahal on the hill above it, Nishat Bagh 3.1 km back along the Boulevard, and Shalimar 3.3 km beyond Nishat. Each has its own ticket. Hussain's favourite is Nishat, for the twelve terraces stepping down to the lake; if you have time for one garden after the tulips, make it that one. Our Mughal gardens guide has the best order and what each one asks of your knees.

| Time | Stop | Why then |
|---|---|---|
| 9:00 | Tulip Garden, two hours | The gate opens at 9; the coaches come at 11 |
| 11:30 | Chashme Shahi, then Pari Mahal | 1.8 km up the same road; the spring and the view |
| 1:00 | Lunch on the Boulevard | Back down by the lake |
| 3:00 | Nishat Bagh | Flat lower terraces, the best lake view from the ground |
| 5:00 | Shikara from Nishat ghat or the Boulevard ghats | An hour on the water as the light goes |
The shikara ride is the right end to the day: the official rate card is on that page, and the Dal Lake guide has the ghats and the evening light show. Almond blossom comes first: Badamwari, the walled almond garden below Hari Parbat, flowers about two weeks before the tulips (in 2026 the trees were out by 10 March and its festival opened on 14 March, two days before the Tulip Garden). A trip in the third week of March can catch the end of one and the start of the other.
The rest of a spring trip, with rooms and fares checked for late March 2027, the last snow in Gulmarg and what to wear: Kashmir in March.
Where to stay for the tulips, and what spring costs
Stay on the Boulevard or the Nishat side and you are 7 km and 3 km from the gate. Spring is Srinagar's expensive season. For Tuesday 6 April 2027, 43 of the hotels we track already showed a rate when we read them on 30 September 2026: the middle rate was ₹5,993 against ₹5,100 for 15 December, and 33 of the 43 cost more in April, typically by about 23%. Our Srinagar hotels guide ranks them by area with those readings; book the room before the flight. A houseboat on the Dal puts you a shikara ride from Nishat ghat and a ten-minute drive from the gate.
For the whole trip, the Kashmir trip cost page has the April numbers next to December, and the Kashmir itinerary shows where a tulip morning fits in five or seven days.
Is the Tulip Garden open now? What to see instead
No. On 29 October 2026 the garden is closed, and it stays closed until the 2027 bloom. Nothing is on show between late April and mid-March; the beds are replanted in November. A package that lists "Tulip Garden" on an October, December or January itinerary is selling you a locked gate, and the places to visit in Kashmir guide marks it seasonal for that reason.
Outside the season: the chrysanthemum garden, Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood, inside the Botanical Garden next door, opened on 23 October 2026 with a bloom expected to last until about 5 or 6 December (₹100 an adult and ₹50 a child under the 2026 order; details in Kashmir in November). The Mughal gardens stay open all year, with chinar colour from mid-October. Best time to visit Kashmir has the month-by-month picture.
How we checked
Dates and visitor totals are the Floriculture Department's, as reported with their dates by Greater Kashmir (20 April 2023), The Quint and IANS (19 March 2024), Kashmir Life (25 April 2024, 25 April 2025, 16 February and 16 April 2026), The Kashmir Monitor (10 March 2026) and Daily Excelsior (13 November 2025, 17 April 2026). Ticket rates are the department's orders of 1 March 2024 (Kashmir Life, 17 February 2024) and 1 March 2026 (Ziraat Times, 28 June 2026). Distances are Google Maps on 29 October 2026 and the District Srinagar page. Hours are as reported by news outlets; no official page states them. What we could not check: the 2027 date and ticket, which are not announced, the foreign-visitor rate after the 2026 revision, and the parking fee. Hussain has not visited in tulip season for this page; the family's bloom-week notes and photos follow when we have them.

Co-founder and technical lead
I grew up in downtown Srinagar, in a family with a long history in Kashmiri arts and shawls. Dal Lake runs through my life, from childhood shikara rides at Gupkar to working from its cafes whenever I am home. Winters meant 4 am harissa runs to Rajouri Kadal. I have since lived in Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore, and now Mumbai, and in every city I became the friend people messaged before a Kashmir trip. So I began writing it all down.
