Best Hotels in Gulmarg: Our Top 10 and Real Prices (2026-27)

This is our ranked guide to hotels in Gulmarg for the 2026-27 winter: the ten we would shortlist first, who each one suits, what a night costs in October, November and December, and how we arrived at the list. Our top 10 hotels in Gulmarg

These are the ten hotels we would shortlist first for a winter stay. All ten are on the Gulmarg meadow, and all are within a kilometre of the Gondola, which matters most in snow. They are ranked by Google rating, adjusted for how many reviews the rating rests on, with extra weight for being close to the Gondola.

In short: how this list is made. We searched Google Hotels for every Gulmarg-area stay we could find, kept the ones with a real address, at least 100 reviews and a rate we could find online, and ranked them with one rule applied to all. We price one fixed night, Tuesday 15 December 2026, so every hotel is compared like for like. The full method is at the end of this page.

Which Gulmarg hotel should you book?

Pick by what matters to you. Each pick below follows a simple rule, stated beside it, so you can see why it is there.

• Top of our ranking: Hotel Gulmarg Hills. Rated 4.9 from 177 reviews, 0.4 km from the Gondola, from ₹11,730 for 15 December. Rule: highest score on our ranking.
• For luxury: The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa. The only hotel listed as 5-star, and the most reviewed in Gulmarg by far (4.6 from 5,460 reviews), 0.3 km from the Gondola, from ₹37,170. Rule: highest star class, most reviews.
• Best value in the top 10: Hotel Shanu. The lowest rate among our top 10, from ₹7,455, rated 4.7 from 186 reviews. Rule: cheapest of the ten.
• Cheapest beside the Gondola: Hotel Pine Palace Resort. From ₹5,775, the lowest rate within 1 km of the Gondola, rated 3.9 from 707 reviews. Rule: lowest rate in walking distance; note the lower rating.
• On the meadow, away from the Gondola: Lupin Gulmarg. Rated 4.7 from 1,086 reviews, 2.2 km from the Gondola, from ₹9,440. Rule: best rated with a December rate, 1 to 2.5 km out.
• Budget, still in Gulmarg: Roseland Cottage. From ₹4,020, rated 4.5 from 135 reviews. Rule: lowest rate on the meadow.
• Below Gulmarg, best rated: Hotel Marina by Stay Pattern. In Drung, rated 4.7 from 1,556 reviews, from ₹5,967. Rule: best rated of the stays down the hill.
• Below Gulmarg, on a budget: Gulmarg Orchard. In Druroo, Tangmarg, rated 4.8 from 271 reviews, from ₹2,418. Rule: best rated under ₹3,000.
• For a family or group that wants a kitchen: the JKTDC huts. Government-run huts with one, two or four bedrooms. Rule: the only listing we found with kitchens; rates are not published online.

Hotel Hilltop, one of the closest hotels to the Gondola, is the one our family knows best: in our experience the food there is good, though it is expensive.

Where to stay: by the Gondola, on the meadow, or below Gulmarg

Stay as close to the Gondola as your budget allows, especially in winter. Gulmarg stays fall into three areas, and the area matters more than the star rating: it decides whether you walk or drive to the snow.

Our family's advice for winter is to stay the night in Gulmarg itself rather than visit for the day. Day visitors arrive late in the morning and queue for the Gondola; if you wake up on the meadow, you are on the snow before them.

Gulmarg hotel prices in October, November and December

Gulmarg hotels cost less in October than in December, and most cost the same or less in November. We checked the same hotels for one Tuesday night in each month, all on 30 September 2026. Of the 68 Gulmarg-area hotels we track, 34 showed a rate for all three nights.

For a typical hotel, the October night was about 23% cheaper than the December one. At one hotel near the Gondola (Kolahoi Green Heights), the October rate was less than half the December rate.

"No rate" means no booking site showed a public rate for that night when we checked. It does not always mean the hotel is full; some hotels sell rooms only by phone or through their own site.

Why we price 15 December: the snow season in Gulmarg normally starts in December and the ski season runs from about December to early March. A Tuesday in mid-December falls after the season begins and before Christmas week, so it shows a normal winter price without the holiday peak. Using one night for every hotel is what makes the prices comparable.

When to book, and what waiting costs

Book Gulmarg months ahead for winter, and choose a rate with free cancellation where you can. The prices on this page are what you pay if you plan early. They are not what you will find in late December.

• It sells out: in 2025, hotels in Gulmarg were almost completely full from 25 December into the new year, and Gulmarg, with about 2,300 beds in its hotels and huts, was 100% sold out on 31 December.
• Christmas week already costs more: of the 32 hotels that showed a rate for both nights, 13 were already more expensive for 26 December than for 15 December when we checked on 30 September 2026, by up to 80%. The rest had not yet changed their Christmas prices.
• Rates move within hours: on the day we checked, 14 of 34 rates changed between two checks a few hours apart: seven rose by more than 10% and four fell by more than 10%.
• Some hotels show nothing online: several well-known hotels near the Gondola had no online rate for 15 December at all. For those, contact the hotel directly.

We re-check these rates through the season and keep the earlier figures, so each table will show what the same night cost when it was checked before.

These hotels are also within about 1 km of the Gondola but sit outside our top 10, because of a lower rating, fewer reviews, or both.

Hotels elsewhere in Gulmarg

These hotels are on the Gulmarg meadow but not beside the Gondola: around the golf course, the market and Circular Road, 1 to 2.5 km away. In summer you can walk it. In deep snow, ask the hotel how guests get to the Gondola in the morning.

Hotels below Gulmarg: Drung, Tangmarg and the road up

Many listings with "Gulmarg" in the name are not in Gulmarg. They are in Drung, Tangmarg and Kunzer, on or near the road that climbs to the meadow. They cost much less, and some are well reviewed, but you drive up and down every day you visit Gulmarg.

A budget room below Gulmarg is not always the cheaper trip in winter. Add the daily 4x4 or chains, and the time, before you compare it with a plain room on the meadow.

5-star, 4-star and 3-star hotels in Gulmarg

Star classes below are the ones shown on each hotel's Google listing, so treat them as a guide rather than an official grading.

• 5-star: The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa is the only hotel listed as 5-star, about 300 m from the Gondola. Its lowest online rate for 15 December was ₹37,170 when we checked.
• 4-star: near the Gondola, Shaw Inn by Stay Pattern, Hotel Pine Spring, Kolahoi Green Heights, Hotel Hilltop, Highlands Park and Hotel Rosewood; elsewhere in Gulmarg, Lupin Gulmarg and The Vintage Gulmarg; and in Drung, Hotel Marina by Stay Pattern.
• 3-star: Hotel Pine Palace Resort, The Meadows Gulmarg, Hotel Khaleel Palace and Hotel Alpine Ridge by the Gondola; Gulmarg Ski Hill Resort, Welcome Hotel Gulmarg, Hotel Zahgeer, Royal Park Hotel and Yemberzal Hotel on the meadow; Hotel Signature at Tangmarg; Apple Tree Resorts and Gulmarg Gulsitara Resorts at Kunzer.

Resorts are spread across all three areas. "Resort" in a name says little about the location, so check the distance column before you book.

JKTDC huts and the Tourist Bungalow

The J&K Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC), the government tourism company, lists two properties in Gulmarg: the JKTDC Gulmarg Hutments and the Tourist Bungalow Alambal. Its huts come in one, two and four bedroom versions, in Deluxe and Super Deluxe categories, each with a kitchen.

What to ask a Gulmarg hotel before you book in winter

In a Kashmir winter the room matters more than the view. Listings almost never answer these, so ask by phone or message and keep the reply.

How we find, rank and price these hotels

This section is the full method, so you can judge how far to trust the lists above.

• Where the list comes from: we searched Google Hotels for Gulmarg and Tangmarg in every way we could think of (by property type, star class and neighbourhood), added the names listed on Booking.com and MakeMyTrip, and then searched around each hotel already found, which brings up its neighbours, until new searches stopped turning up well-reviewed stays. We kept those within 15 km of the Gondola with a real address or website and a rating or a price, left out whole-house rentals, and merged duplicates. We track 68 stays. This page lists 58 of them: those with at least 100 Google reviews, a few well-known names, and the government bungalow.
• Cross-check: 35 of the first 50 stays we tracked are also listed on Booking.com or MakeMyTrip. Those sites score hotels a little lower than Google does, but in much the same order: adding their ratings to an earlier version of our ranking moved no hotel more than five places.
• Ranking: each hotel's Google rating is adjusted for its number of reviews: a hotel needs about 200 reviews before its own rating counts for more than the Gulmarg average of 4.4. The top 10 is drawn from hotels on the meadow that showed an online rate on at least one of the four nights we checked, so each can be priced and booked from home; well-rated hotels with no online rate are in the longer lists. For the top 10, that adjusted rating is 70% of the score and distance to the Gondola is 30%. The other lists are ordered by the adjusted rating alone. Price is never part of a ranking, because it changes daily.
• Price: the lowest public rate any booking site showed on Google Hotels for two adults for one night, taxes included. Member-only and sign-in rates are left out. All rates on this page were read on 30 September 2026.
• Distance: a straight line from the hotel's map position to the Gondola base station. By road, places below Gulmarg are much further: Tangmarg is about 13 km of mountain road from Gulmarg.
• What we could not check: heating, power backup and hot water. Listings rarely state them, so we do not rank on them; ask the hotel.
• Whose opinion this is: the rankings come from the rule above, not from our taste. Where we add our own experience, as with Hotel Hilltop, we say so.
• Updates: we re-check ratings and rates through the season. Every table shows the date it was last checked, and earlier prices are kept so you can see how a rate has moved.
