How We Verify Kashmir Prices and Facts

Who checks the prices?

Our family in Kashmir, who have a long history in Kashmiri arts and links across the local travel trade. They visit or call the people who set the prices: the Gondola ticket counter, taxi stands, shikara ghats, hotels and shops. They check in at least once a week, and straight away whenever a price or rule changes.

We also check trusted sources regularly: operators' official websites, government tourism and transport notices, and official weather and road updates.

What do the price labels mean?

• Checked: we or our family confirmed the price in person or by phone, on the date shown.
• Official rate: read on the operator's own website or a government notice, on the date shown.
• Reported online: published by other websites and not yet checked by us. We show the date of the report.

New guides often start with official and reported prices. We then check them ourselves, and our family checks them on the ground, and the label is upgraded each time.

What do we record for every price?

Each price is saved once in our price database with:

• The item and unit, for example "shikara ride, per boat per hour".
• The type of price: an official fixed rate, a typical price paid after normal bargaining, or a "starting from" price.
• The source, for example the operator's official site, a rate board, or "paid at Ghat 15 on 12 October".
• How we know it (checked, official rate or reported online) and the date.

Every page that mentions a price pulls it from that one record. A price is never different on two pages, and one update fixes it everywhere.

Official rates or typical prices: what is the difference?

Official rates, such as Gondola tickets, taxi union rates and entry fees, are checked against the operator's own site or rate board, and we link the source where one exists. Typical prices, such as shikaras, pony rides and shopping, are what people actually paid after normal bargaining, so we show a range instead of one number.

How often do we re-check?

On the ground at least once a week, and whenever something changes, such as a new Gondola rate or a road closure. Official sources are checked regularly, and always before the season a price matters for: winter prices in October and November, spring and tulip prices in February. Live pages, such as snow and road status, are updated as conditions change and show the time of each update.

What do Verified and Updated mean on a page?

Verified, with a date, means we checked the facts on that page first-hand on that date. Updated means the page is based on official and online sources and has not been checked first-hand yet. Either way, if the date looks old, treat the prices as a guide and tell us what you paid.

Where do the photos come from?

We prefer our own photos, taken on the ground. When we use photos by other photographers, we license them and never present them as our own. We never use AI-generated images to show what a real place looks like.

What if a price is wrong?

Prices in Kashmir change with the season, fuel costs and demand. If you paid something different, send us the price, the place and the date through the contact page. We re-check it and update every page that uses it.

Do businesses pay to be on EverythingKashmir?

Some hotels, guides and shops may partner with us, and we may earn a commission when you book through them. Partner listings are always clearly labelled. Partners never change the prices we show: every price is verified the same way, whoever it belongs to.
