Srinagar Airport Flight Status Today: Is It Open, and Why Flights Get Cancelled (2026-27)
Open: flights running on 12 and 13 October, a few delays of 20 to 45 minutes
A tracker reading, not an airport statement. Google's flight panel at about 1 pm on 12 October 2026 showed departures to Delhi, Mumbai, Jammu and Noida on time or 20 to 45 minutes late, and no news report of a cancellation on 12 or 13 October. Clear autumn weather across the valley.
Check the dated report at the top of this page. Srinagar airport normally runs every day from 8 am to 5 pm with about 60 flights. It closes for the day in dense fog or heavy snow, as on 23 and 27 January 2026, and once for security in May 2025. Check your airline's app before you leave.

In a normal week the airport runs every day from 8 am to 5 pm, with 60-odd flights a day to Delhi, Mumbai, Jammu, Bengaluru and other cities. Is Srinagar airport open today?
Unless the report above says otherwise, yes. Srinagar International Airport (code SXR) is a civil enclave on an Indian Air Force airfield, 12 km south of the city at Budgam. After a proposed weekly runway closure was withdrawn in July 2026, the airport confirmed there would be no full closure this year, with daily operations in its watch hours of 8 am to 5 pm and runway maintenance at night until October 2026. Night flights, which the government said had started in February 2026, depend on that window reopening; check your airline.

The pattern: a closure is almost always a winter morning with fog or fresh snow, it is usually one day, and the airport reopens as soon as the runway is clear and visibility is back. Old reports put the visibility an aircraft needs at about 1,000 to 1,200 m; in dense fog it falls to 100 to 500 m.

- Your airline's app. The only place a cancellation shows first. IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, Akasa and SpiceJet fly here.
- @SrinagarAirport on X. The airport's official account posts closures and resumptions; its May 2025 suspension notice was posted there.
- The AAI flight schedule page. aai.aero lists the day's schedule for Srinagar, marked tentative: verify with the airline.
- Flightradar24 or FlightStats. Live arrivals and departures, useful for seeing whether anything has landed this morning.
- The Meteorological Centre Srinagar. The IMD's fog and snow warnings for the valley, the night before.
- The airport office. 0194-2303000 and 2303311, in office hours.
If your flight is cancelled
- Stay where you are. Do not go to the airport until the airline confirms a departure; the security checks at Srinagar are slow and the terminal is small.
- Rebook through the airline, not a counter outside. On a snow day every flight is in the same queue, and the first seats go to passengers who rebook in the app.
- Keep the room. Hotels in Srinagar usually extend a night on a cancellation day; ask before you check out.
- Consider the train. The Vande Bharat from Srinagar to Katra and Jammu runs when the airport does not, as long as the line is open; the highway is the last resort in snow.

At the airport: what to expect
Reach three hours before a domestic flight. Vehicles are checked at the outer gate, baggage is screened before the terminal, and there are the usual checks inside; carry an original photo ID. Prepaid SIMs from other states do not work in Jammu and Kashmir, so sort your phone before you land. Taxis to the city wait outside; the Dal Lake hotels are about 17 km away.

Dal Lake runs through my life, from childhood shikara rides at Gupkar to working from its cafes whenever I am home. Winters meant 4 am harissa runs to Rajouri Kadal. I have since lived in Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore, and now Mumbai, and in every city I became the friend people messaged before a Kashmir trip. So I began writing it all down.
