Best Hotels in Sonamarg: Our Top 10 and Real Prices (2026-27)

This is our ranked guide to hotels in Sonamarg for the 2026-27 winter: the ten we would shortlist first, who each one suits, what a night costs in October, November and December, which hotels take winter bookings, and how we arrived at the list. Our top 10 hotels in Sonamarg

These are the ten hotels we would shortlist first. All ten are in Sonamarg town itself, beyond the Z-Morh tunnel, within about 1.8 km of the taxi stand where the road to Thajiwas Glacier starts. They are ranked by Google rating, adjusted for how many reviews the rating rests on, with a little extra weight for being close to the taxi stand.

In short: how this list is made. We searched Google Hotels for every Sonamarg stay we could find, kept the ones with a real address, at least 100 reviews and a rate we could find online, and ranked them with one rule applied to all. We price one fixed night, Tuesday 15 December 2026, so every hotel is compared like for like. The full method is at the end of this page.

Which Sonamarg hotel should you book?

Pick by what matters to you. Each pick below follows a simple rule, stated beside it, so you can see why it is there.

• Top of our ranking: Hotel Mughal India. Rated 4.8 from 1,011 reviews, 0.3 km from the taxi stand, from ₹3,934 for 15 December. Rule: highest score on our ranking.
• For luxury: Radisson Hotel Sonamarg. The only Sonamarg hotel listed as 5-star, rated 4.4 from 634 reviews, 0.6 km from the taxi stand, from ₹16,094. Rule: highest listed star class.
• Best value in the top 10: Mitra Sonamarg. The lowest December rate among our top 10, from ₹1,116, rated 4.8 from 348 reviews. Rule: cheapest of the ten.
• Most reviewed: Snowland Resort & Spa. Rated 4.3 from 1,893 reviews, the largest number of reviews in town, so its rating is the hardest to skew; from ₹9,605. Rule: most Google reviews.
• Before Sonamarg, by the river: The Sultan Resort. At Kullan, rated 4.6 from 352 reviews, from ₹13,286. Rule: best rated of the stays west of the town with a December rate.
• For a family or group: the JKTDC huts. Government-run huts with one, two or four bedrooms. Rule: the only multi-bedroom huts we found; JKTDC's own page shows no tariffs.

Day trip or a night in Sonamarg?

Most people visit Sonamarg as a day trip from Srinagar, about 80 km and under three hours away. A night is worth it if you want the valley early and late, when the day visitors have gone, or if you plan both Thajiwas Glacier and Zero Point without rushing.

Where to stay: in Sonamarg town or before the tunnel

Stay in Sonamarg town if you can. Hotels here are past the Z-Morh tunnel, close to the taxi stand, the market and the path to Thajiwas. Most other stays sold as "Sonamarg" are west of the town on the Srinagar side, around Gagangir, where the tunnel begins, and Kullan, by the Sindh river.

Distances on this page are straight lines to the taxi stand. Gagangir is where the 6.5 km tunnel begins, and Kullan is further back towards Srinagar, so add the drive to every outing. If a hotel gives its address as Gagangir, ask whether it is before or after the tunnel.

Are Sonamarg hotels open in winter?

Yes, many are, and this is new. Until 2025, snow closed the road for months and the hotels shut with it. The Z-Morh tunnel opened on 13 January 2025 and keeps Sonamarg reachable through the winter. When we checked on 30 September 2026, 23 of the 40 town hotels we track showed an online rate for 15 December 2026, against 32 for 20 October.

Eight well-reviewed town hotels (Hotel Thajwass Glacier, Namrose Resorts, Sonamarg Snow View, Hotel Sonamarg Inn, Golden Peak Sonamarg, The Vista Hotel Sonamarg, Hotel Hill View, Divine Inn) showed an October rate but nothing for December. That can mean a hotel closes for winter, or only that it has not opened its winter dates to booking sites yet. Phone before you plan around a hotel with no December rate.

In December 2025, after the first snowfall, the Joint Director of Tourism for Kashmir said hotels in Sonamarg were seeing good occupancy. The tourist police counted 417,091 visitors to Sonamarg between January and November 2025.

Sonamarg hotel prices in October, November and December

Sonamarg hotels cost less in October than in December: for a typical hotel, the October night was about 6% cheaper. We checked the same hotels for one Tuesday night in each month, all on 30 September 2026. Of the 56 Sonamarg-area stays we track, 27 showed a rate for all three nights.

"No rate" means no booking site showed a public rate for that night when we checked. It does not always mean the hotel is full or closed; some hotels sell rooms only by phone or through their own site.

Why we price 15 December: snow usually lies in Sonamarg from about November to April, and a Tuesday in mid-December falls inside the snow season but before Christmas week. It shows a normal winter price without the holiday peak, and using one night for every hotel is what makes the prices comparable.

When to book, and what waiting costs

Book early for winter and choose a rate with free cancellation where you can, because snow can change your plans. The prices on this page are what you pay if you plan ahead.

• Christmas week: of the 27 stays that showed a rate for both nights, 8 were already more expensive for 26 December than for 15 December when we checked on 30 September 2026, typically by about 23%. Two were cheaper. The rest had not changed their Christmas prices.
• Fewer rooms than you think: only 29 of the 56 stays we track showed any December rate online, so the choice in winter is much smaller than in summer.
• The Amarnath Yatra weeks: in July and August Sonamarg is busy with pilgrims heading to Baltal, and hotels fill up. Book well ahead for those weeks.

We re-check these rates through the season and keep the earlier figures, so each table will show what the same night cost when it was checked before.

More hotels in Sonamarg town

These hotels are also in or just beyond Sonamarg town, past the tunnel, but sit outside our top 10, because of a lower rating, fewer reviews, or a longer walk to the taxi stand. A few are east of the town, on the road towards Baltal.

Hotels before Sonamarg: Gagangir and Kullan

These stays are west of Sonamarg town, along the Sindh river around Gagangir and Kullan. They suit a quiet night on the way, and some are well reviewed, but from most of them you drive through the tunnel to reach Sonamarg town, Thajiwas and the taxi stand.

5-star, 4-star and 3-star hotels in Sonamarg

Star classes below are the ones shown on each hotel's Google listing, so treat them as a guide rather than an official grading.

• 5-star: Radisson Hotel Sonamarg. The lowest online rate for Radisson Hotel Sonamarg on 15 December was ₹16,094 when we checked.
• 4-star: Arco Hotels & Resorts, Hotel Sonamarg Inn, The Sultan Resort, Badar Resort and Spa by Stay Pattern, Hotel Tranquil Retreat, Snowland Resort & Spa, Four Points by Sheraton Sonmarg, Ahsan Mount Resort.
• 3-star: Hotel Mughal India, Hotel Village Walk, Hotel Thajwass Glacier, Divine Inn, Hotel Glacier Heights, Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Hotel Akbar Sonamarg, Lemon Tree Hotel, Sonmarg, The Vista Hotel Sonamarg, Namrose Resorts, Paradise Camping Resort, Hotel Czara Resort Sonmarg, Hotel Hill View, Hotel Barzman, Hotel Mount View.

Several well-reviewed hotels show no star class at all. A missing class says nothing about quality; it only means the listing does not state one.

JKTDC huts, Hotel Kongposh and the Yatri Niwas

The J&K Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC), the government tourism company, lists two properties in Sonamarg: the JKTDC Sonamarg Resort and Hotel Kongposh. It also lists huts with one, two and four bedrooms, in Deluxe and Super Deluxe categories, and a Yatri Niwas dormitory.

What to ask a Sonamarg hotel before you book in winter

Sonamarg is the coldest of the three hill stations, with the average temperature well below freezing from December to February. Listings almost never answer these, so ask by phone or message and keep the reply.

We use the same method and the same dates for hotels in Srinagar, hotels in Gulmarg and hotels in Pahalgam.

How we find, rank and price these hotels

This section is the full method, so you can judge how far to trust the lists above.

• Where the list comes from: we searched Google Hotels for Sonamarg, Gagangir and Kullan in every way we could think of (by property type, star class, neighbourhood and then by the name of each hotel already found, which brings up its neighbours) until new searches stopped turning up well-reviewed stays.
• What we kept: stays within 22 km of the Sonamarg taxi stand with a real address or website and a rating or a price. We left out whole-house rentals and merged duplicates. That gave 56 stays, which we track. This page lists 47 of them: those with at least 100 Google reviews, plus the government properties.
• Ranking: each stay's Google rating is adjusted for its number of reviews: a stay needs about 200 reviews before its own rating counts for more than the Sonamarg average of 4.4. The top 10 is drawn from town stays that showed an online rate on at least one of the four nights we checked, so each can be priced and booked from home; well-rated stays with no online rate are in the longer list. For the top 10, that adjusted rating is 85% of the score and distance to the taxi stand is 15%: full marks within 500 m, a little less up to 1 km and 2 km. Distance counts for less here than in our Gulmarg guide, because all of Sonamarg town is a short walk or drive. The other lists are ordered by the adjusted rating alone. Price is never part of a ranking, because it changes daily.
• Price: the lowest public rate any booking site showed on Google Hotels for two adults for one night, taxes included. Member-only and sign-in rates are left out, and so is any "rate" under ₹600, which is a listing error rather than a room. All rates on this page were read on 30 September 2026.
• Distance: a straight line from the hotel's map position to the Sonamarg taxi stand on the Thajiwas road. By road, places before the tunnel are further.
• What we could not check: heating, power backup and hot water. Listings rarely state them, so we do not rank on them; ask the hotel. We have also not stayed in these hotels ourselves, and we say so rather than pretend.
• What the ranking is not: it is not a list of every hotel in Sonamarg. It covers the 45 stays we found with at least 100 reviews. A stay we never found cannot appear, and a Google rating can be pushed up by a hotel that asks every guest for a review, so read a few recent reviews before you pay.
• Updates: we re-check ratings and rates through the season. Every table shows the date it was last checked, and earlier prices are kept so you can see how a rate has moved.
